Training events

We recognise that good quality training can reduce the potential for abuse by careworkers and by others, and there is good research to indicate that training, when coupled to appropriate staffing levels, can improve the quality of care provided in institutions and by domiciliary care staff.

For this reason, we provide a range of training options, targeted toward residential care staff, domiciliary care staff, and voluntary and independent sector groups that interact or directly work with older people.

Learning methods can include handouts, lectures, group discussion, information sharing and small group activities. We can organise bespoke training for organisations or groups. To discuss these options please email or telephone 020 8835 9280.

Action on Elder Abuse will be holding a Special English National Conference on 25th March in Euston, central London. The conference has a range of expert speakers and workshop leaders, with a focus on considering what works effectively in adult safeguarding, what needs to improve, and what we can learn on a number of topical issues.

  • Action on Elder Abuse Cymru National Conference 2019

Elder Abuse is a Crime - Is Wales doing enough to protect victims? The conference will be focusing on how the criminal justice system responds to older victims of crimes from reporting crimes to the police, investigation, referral to the Crown Prosecution Service, prosecuting offences and finally sentencing. We will also examine how to support victims of crime and how adult safeguarding links with the criminal justice system.

    Family abuse

It is important to consider family abuse from two perspectives: abuse that is perpetrated deliberately, and abuse that is not. This is particularly true when we consider neglect because one form of neglect can be intentional and one passive
