Denzil Lush was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1978 and in Scotland in 1993, and is the author of several specialist textbooks for legal practitioners. He was the Master of the Court of Protection from 1996 to 2007 and subsequently the Senior Judge of that court until he retired in 2016. The two areas in which he was most often required to adjudicate involved the management of damages awarded to persons with an acquired brain injury, and the financial abuse of older people who lack mental capacity. On his retirement as a judge he became a trustee of both Headway UK and Action on Elder Abuse.
