John Williams is a Professor of Law at Aberystwyth University.  His main research interests are in the area of the law and older people.  He has published widely on how criminal justice, social care, health, criminal law and human rights work (or do no work) for older people.  John is a co-investigator on a Big Lottery funded project looking at  Access to Justice for victims of elder abuse. He was a founding trustee of Age UK and has been a trustee of Age Scotland and Age Ceredigion.  In 2012, he was appointed to the United Nations Open Ended Working Group on the rights of Older People.  His teaching interests include Medicine, Ethics and Law, Family and Child Law, Welfare Law and Victims.  He was the expert advisor to the National Assembly for Wales Health and Social Care Committee during its consideration of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and also was a member of the Welsh Government’s advisory panel on the new safeguarding procedures in the Act.
