Lesley McDowell qualified as a Social Worker in 1976 and throughout her 32 year career worked in Belfast, within statutory social services. In 1989 she began focussing on the development of Care and Protection services for Older People and NI policy and procedures for Elder Protection.  Latterly as a senior manager in an integrated Health and Social Care Trust, her remit included lead responsibility for Adult Protection and Social Care Governance. Since retiring from full time employment, Lesley has maintained her commitment to Social Work and to Adult Safeguarding through her involvement in the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) and AEA. She was Vice Chair of BASW from 2010 to 2014 and  Chair the Northern Ireland Assoc. (NIASW) committee for five years. She  represented NIASW on the Northern Ireland Adult Safeguarding Partnership (NIASP) from its creation in 2010 to September 2012, during which time she chaired the workstream, which completed a revision of the regional operational policy and procedures. She represents on matters relating to Northern Ireland on the Board.
