Stephen McCarthy, Director of Action on Elder Abuse (England)

Stephen McCarthy joined Action on Elder Abuse in May 2016, as the new Director of England, a role mirroring the existing nation directors across the UK. He had previously spent twelve years at Sense, the charity for deafblind people, finishing as Head of Knowledge.

In his time at Sense Stephen set up and established the Sense Information & Advice Service, including its helpline. The service also led on creating best practice information materials and knowledge sharing across the organisation. As a member of the leadership team, he was also involved in campaigning and policy work on social care, including work around the Care Act.

A month or so into his new role with AEA Stephen hit the ground running, prioritising the further development of the helpline while also getting involved in the early days of our new campaign to make elder abuse an aggravated crime.
