Key speakers include:

Gary FitzGerald, our retiring Chief Executive, making his final public speaking engagement. He will explore what has been learned over the last decade and where we need to go if we want to develop genuine protection for older victims of elder abuse.

Denzil Lush, former Senior Judge of the Court of Protection and current AEA trustee, will consider the current systems of protection from financial abuse and draw on his extensive knowledge and experience to consider effectiveness of current systems and best options going forward.

Julie Bailey CBE. founder of Cure the NHS, who will focus on today. Has mid-Staffs made a difference? Did the Government listen and respond? Are patients safer today than they were before mid-Staffs came to public consciousness? 

Mike Ainsworth, Chair of the Government's Advisory Group on Hate Crime, who will talk about H​ate Crimes, Hate Speech and Hate Incidents - why they matter and how to tackle them, as well consider the issues around the potential inclusion of age related Hate Crime in the Law Commission review.

Belinda Schwehr, Chief Executive, CASCAIDr (and owner of Care and Health Law). Belinda is in a unique position to critique the current systems and to offer thoughts on what works and doesn’t, and what needs to change. She specialises in The Care Act, Personalisation, the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Continuing NHS healthcare, Human Rights, cuts, consultation, charging, commissioning and change management.

The Law Commission review of a Hate Crime. This is a consultative workshop so you will have the opportunity to discuss and contribute to the consultation.

Professor John Williams Emeritus Professor, Head of Law, Aberystwyth University who will consider Whether we are learning from our scandals and inquiries? What needs to change and improve?

Steve Clay Safeguarding consultant. QA safeguarding processes and training. 30 years with the police. 8 years Safeguarding Board Manager Can we learn from Safeguarding Adults Reviews? What do the Reports tell us that we can utilise to better protect?

Dr Hannah Bows LLB, MSc, PhD, FHEA Assistant Professor in Criminal Law, Director of Equality and Diversity and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research into Violence and Abuse. Teaches criminal law. Elder homicide: understanding the myths and realities. What can we learn?

Tamara Barnett Project Leader, The Human Trafficking Foundation. Understanding the extent and nature of human trafficking: identifying, supporting and assisting victims.

Payment options

AEA members receive a 20% discount on all AEA conferences, training, seminars and 15% discount on DVDs and publications for one year.  You may therefore want to consider becoming a member to qualify for the reduced booking fee for this conference, which will offer further discounts for the next year.

Cancellations

Cancellations: a refund minus 20% administration charge will be given for cancellations which are received in writing 3 weeks prior to the date of the event; no refunds will be given after that date. The organisers reserve the right to alter the programme without notice.  In the event of conference cancellation a full refund of delegate fee will be made to all delegates booked and attending, but the organisers accept no responsibility for the cost of travel, accommodation or other associated expenses.

You can, also, transfer your place to someone else if you are unable to attend the conference.
