Training PACKAGES we offer

We recognise that good quality training can reduce the potential for abuse by careworkers and by others, and there is good research to indicate that training, when coupled to appropriate staffing levels, can improve the quality of care provided in institutions and by domiciliary care staff.

For this reason we provide a range of training options, targeted toward residential care staff, domiciliary care staff, and voluntary and independent sector groups that interact or directly work with older people. We also provide a short, 15 minute, film on financial abuse that can be watched by anyone, including members of the public.

Courses can be structured according to your needs, can be used as part of induction programmes or refresher sessions and may be structured to fit short bursts of time or over one or several days. Learning methods can include handouts, lectures, group discussion, information sharing and small group activities. We can organise bespoke training for organisations or groups. To discuss these options please email or telephone 020 8835 9280.

  • In recent years there has been an increase in reporting of elder abuse cases and this is probably a consequence of both increased awareness and action by regulators, care providers and adult protection staff. But systems continue to address less than one-tenth of elder abuse. Which is why the constant delays in introducing legislation for adult protection is so devastating.

  • General training

The Time for Action DVD is narrated by Tony Robinson of Time Team and Baldrick fame. It is approximately 15 minutes in duration and covers what is elder abuse, what are the signs, and what someone should do about it. It is a good 'entry level' product and can be used by individual care staff or volunteers or by community groups as an introduction or minimum level awareness raising experience.

Click the screen above to watch an example of the DVD. (It is priced at £30 (plus VAT and postage/packing). Click on the Paypal logo above to buy copies of the DVD.

  • In addition to the DVD, we can provide the Time for Action training pack, which can be used in conjunction with the TFA DVD. It is primarily a cascade training programme, for supervisors to train groups of staff. It is in its third version, having been first launched in 2001, and it has now been used by thousands of staff and volunteers. It  ensures that staff and volunteers receive training on abuse that meets the necessary requirements, going through key points including how to recognise abuse, what to do about it, and confidentiality and disclosure. This is an excellent means of ensuring staff and volunteers understand this important issue, and thereby reducing the likelihood of abuse happening.  (We also run regular training sessions, teaching attendees about the pack and the key points of training staff or volunteers).

The training pack and DVD is priced at £150 plus postage/packaging (but does not attract VAT)

  • Financial Abuse: Gardens with Red Roses

Gardens with Red Roses DVD is an 18 minute DVD which tells the story of Dominic and Debbie who live with Grandad and dream of a home of their own. But life is not always as it seems and it is only in the closing scene that the truth becomes clear.

This is an excellent DVD to raise awareness of financial abuse and the dangers of assuming that what appears to be reality is necessarily so.

The DVD is available for a £15 donation to AEA (and please GiftAid this donation)
