We recognise that good quality training can reduce the potential for abuse by careworkers and by others, and there is good research to indicate that
training, when coupled to appropriate staffing levels, can improve the quality of care provided in institutions and by domiciliary care staff.
For this reason we provide a range of training options, targeted toward residential care staff, domiciliary care staff, and voluntary and independent
sector groups that interact or directly work with older people. We also provide a short, 15 minute, film on financial abuse that can be watched by
anyone.
Equally, people working with safeguarding must have appropriate training to equip them to understand and respond to safeguarding alerts and investigations. With our extensive experience of safeguarding we can offer tailored training to meet the
individual needs of organisations.
We have also developed a flexible training
package to equip you with the skills and materials to cascade
training on elder abuse to all your staff. The course – called
“Time for Action on Elder Abuse” (TFA) - is specifically
designed for people who would like to increase confidence in
delivering training on this vitally important and sensitive
issue.
During a one-day session, participants. become familiar with the
training pack (comprising a DVD, training notes, overheads and
handouts).; learn how to prepare for
leading a training session; .learn how to facilitate
discussion; .are given tips for
handling difficult questions; and have an opportunity to
discuss in more detail topics such as legislation and
regulations, confidentiality and disclosure, and whistleblowing.
The pack, which participants take away with them, is modular – and can then be used for either a single session covering all topics, or for a number of shorter sessions on particular topics.
"Excellent, gave a good understanding of elder abuse."
"Helped me understand issues of confidentiality and disclosure."
"I can deliver the training to my staff."
