Get Involved

Do you have some time to spare? Everyone has something that they can contribute to the charity.

Volunteering is flexible, ranging from a few hours a year to several hours a week. It's your choice. Volunteers can help us in our central office in London - either on the helpline or in our administration office - or they can help us spread the word in their local area, or fundraise for us, help set up a local branch of AEA, or keep the issue of elder abuse alive in the local press.

In return we'll reimburse agreed out of pocket expenses and provide you with all the information and support you need. Join our team and make a real difference.

Email us by clicking here, and we promise to get back to you within 14 days.  And thank you.  Your involvement will make a real difference.

Types of volunteering

Helpline:

Elder Abuse Response is a free phone national Helpline service, which is also available to callers from the Republic of Ireland . We provide information and support to anyone affected by, or concerned about, the abuse of an elderly person. Our opening hours are 9am – 5pm , Monday to Friday. In addition to answering calls, we also respond to letters and e-mails.

We are based at Action on Elder Abuse (AEA)’s office in Streatham, south London (SW16), which is accessible by National Rail and bus services.   In addition, if you have regular access to a telephone which you can use confidentially, we have technology allowing us to link you directly into our switchboard system.

If you are interested in volunteering to work on our helpline please click here for further information.

Branch:

We are actively seeking to establish local branches of AEA throughout the UK, both as a means of supporting people who have experienced abuse as well as to monitor local actions and ensure protection for vulnerable adults.  Is this something that would interest you, either as an individual member or as an activist.  For further information contact Daniel Blake by clicking here.

These will need a branch development committee and will form an important part of our local activities. Volunteers will typically help with the following roles:

  • Chair

  • Treasurer

  • Secretary

  • Committee Member
