This DVD and guide has been developed by domiciliary care experts to be a cost-effective and efficient way of training care staff quickly in the five types of elder abuse and how they should act in response.

In the pressurised environment of today's domiciliary care services time is precious, but mistakes are costly.

Training staff quickly and efficiently is a challenge for all domiciliary care agencies, regardless of their size. And yet, it takes just one instance of elder abuse and you can seriously hurt an older person, AND your reputation.

So, why not consider the options produced by Action on Elder Abuse, the leading Adult Safeguarding charity.

Our Consequences DVD and guide can be used in
groups, or by an individual worker in their own
 home.

Using straightforward language, and drawing upon
real events recorded by the charity's helpline, it
explores the five primary types of elder abuse that
domiciliary care staff may experience and highlights
 how to act in response.

Each type of abuse is considered in detail with a challenging scenario asking the viewer to consider the options for response to the unfolding situation. Taking the viewer to the conclusion of one possible option it then rolls back time to consider an alternative possibility.

The accompanying 15 page brochure considers each of the five primary types of elder abuse – psychological, financial, physical, sexual and neglect – in detail, providing examples and signs to look out for; all set in realistic domiciliary care scenarios. And each section provides advice on how to get the best from the DVD and brochure. With a certificate at the back to allow confirmation that the training has been completed satisfactorily.

This package will help you consider the challenges of providing quality care:

 •    when staff are working alone their initial response to a situation can often be crucial

 •    while staff are in a working relationship with service users they are also a companion for the older
person and this can present contradictions

 •    sometimes doing the kind human thing isn’t always the right thing

 •    there are always consequences to the decisions a worker takes.
