Women's Aid
Women’s Aid
recognise there is a need to create an environment
of learning, understanding and acceptance of abuse as a
reality in our communities regardless of age, whilst recognizing
the specific barriers for older victims and their reluctance to
involve services or seek redress. We have commissioned research
highlighting the physical, mental and social impact of abuse and
health and well being of victims including older victims.
Recommendations included the need for a comprehensive training
strategy underpinning the development of robust policy and
procedures to support victims and challenge perpetrators.
Action on Elder
Abuse and Women's Aid are providing a joint training programme within
Northern Ireland, making the links between domestic violence and abuse and
elder abuse. For more information go to our page 'What we are doing'.
