Froud Community Centre 1 Toronto Ave Manor Park London E12 5JF North Wales Adult Protection Forum A vintage fire engine is to make its way across North Wales on 15 June to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The fire engine, supplied courtesy of Colin Knowleson MBE from Slaters of Abergele, will be travelling from Llangefni to Wrexham, stopping in each county along the way. Representatives of North Wales’s six Adult Protection Committees, civic dignitaries and other supporters will sign a parchment scroll expressing their commitment to promote the welfare of vulnerable adults and to help safeguard them from abuse. The scroll will travel with the fire engine and when completed will be presented to the Welsh Assembly Government to emphasise the commitment across North Wales to stop the abuse of vulnerable adults.

There will be staff and information from the Vulnerable Adult Protection Team, Coventry PCT, West Midlands Police Community Safety Team, the Coventry Healthy Living Collaborative - a multi-agency group working particularly to raise the quality of care provided in residential care for Older People in Coventry - the UHCW NHS Trust and the Coventry Domestic Violence and Abuse Partnership present as part of the presentation. Southampton City Council - will be holding an event called Enough is Enough from 11-15 June everyday . This will be to raise awareness all week with a conference on the 15th. Lewisham - Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults - Will be holding an event called Helping Older People to Stay Safe - Events Area - Lewisham Shopping Centre, Lewisham , London, SE13 - Crime Prevention, Trading Standards and Voluntary Organisations will be giving advice and information to older people on how to avoid abuse. Greenwich Social Services - Will be holding Tea Dance at Woolwich Public Hall and releasing 90 Balloons , representing referrals to Safeguarding Adults services 2006-2007 Worcestershire Council will again mark this day. Activities will include information displays in venues such as GP surgeries, colleges and libraries. Coffee mornings will be held around the county attended by councillors and covered by the local press." Services - City of London Karen Littleford (Shropshire Partners in Care) and partners from Shropshire County Council Adult Protection Team (Peter Clarke, Sarah Bland, Claire Williams), Shropshire Primary Care Trust (Joanne Ellison) and the Care Workforce Development Partnership (Amy Simpson, Claire Smout) will be taking part in a sponsored White Water Rafting event at Canolfan Tryweryn (near Bala, Gwynedd ) on Friday June 15th. The aim is to raise awareness of issues around elder abuse and to once again highlight this issue at a local level in Shropshire with the event is taking place on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2007. Bowbrook House Residential Home from Shrewsbury, are supporting this event with several staff members volunteering to participate in a second raft.
