Abuse, Neglect and loss of dignity
in the Institutional Care of Older People.

On 27 March the Department of Health in England, in conjunction with Comic Relief, announced a new research study into elder abuse prevalence within institutions.  A Press Launch on the day was addressed by Kevin Cahill, Chief Executive of Comic Relief, Ivan Lewis the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, and Gary FitzGerald, Chief Executive of AEA.

Although AEA have some reservations about the content of the research proposals it is supporting the initiative, having previously brought our views to the attention of the DH (prior to the call for expressions of interest which was required by Monday 23 June 2008).  Successful applicants will be asked to download application forms and submit a full proposal and the deadline for receipt of full applications will be 5.00pm on Wednesday 27 August 2008 .

An indicative timeframe would involve a start date for the other primary research studies of October 2008, with completion of the final stages of the all parts of the work programme by the end of April 2011.  Click here for a copy of the call for expressions of interest.
