Action on Elder Abuse
Home

Trusts and Foundations have been a major source of support for AEA since we were first set up in 1993 and they continue to be our primary supporters.  Through the ongoing commitment of our regular funders we have got the issue of elder abuse into the public eye and onto the political agenda, and we have helped thousands of older people who were experiencing abuse.

Core funding of our organisation is always important, and is crucial during the recession, but we also have undertaken many projects that have changed the lives of vulnerable older people.  And we continue to have so many new projects waiting for funding, hence we are always keen to find more supporters.

Often, we seek to highlight areas of abuse that are not being considered by statutory organisations, and our more immediate successes in this regard have included a research project that established the prevalence of elder abuse, work to highlight financial abuse, work on domestic violence and elder abuse, and work to train frontline police staff in adult protection issues.

Trusts and Foundations

We continue to be most grateful to the many charitable trusts  and foundations who have supported the charity for so many years.  Their contributions have enabled the organisation to fund essential services such as our helpline.  We would like to thank the following trusts and foundations for their recent support:  the Bromley Trust, the Betty Lawes Foundation, WG Edwards Charitable Foundation, Rufford Maurice Lang Foundation, Convent of Mercy, Sylvia Aitken Charitable Foundation, Bisgood Foundation, and Share Gift.

Although we have seen significant successes over the last few years to improve the lives of vulnerable older people, there remains a huge amount of work to do. The subject of elder abuse remains a hugely taboo topic with the general public, and we often struggle to attract support from this quarter.  A donation from a trust or foundation can be made towards one aspect  of our work, or towards the general operation of the charity. A grant of  any size can greatly help to ensuring the charity’s activities remain of the highest standard and enable us to continue protecting vulnerable older people from harm.

If you are a trustee or administrator of a charitable trust or foundation, we would be happy to speak to you to discuss our unique and innovative outlook as the leading authority on elder abuse in the UKEmail - enquiries@elderabuse.org.uk or phone 0208 835 9280 and speak to Andrea Carnegie.

Some examples of support that would help include:

  • a contribution toward our helpline.  It is the longest running and only helpline of its type in the UK and provides advice and guidance to thousands of people each year.

  • a contribution to our core costs.  We keep our overheads to an absolute minimum, but there remain internal activities that we must perform but which cannot be self funding.  Core funding is often the most difficult to achieve.

  • A contribution toward establishing local branches of AEA.  We have had major success in influencing central government planning, but it is can be more challenging at local level without establishing local groups of committed people.

  • A contribution toward our plans for work within Black and Minority ethnic communities on elder abuse.

  • A contribution toward our work to highlight the safeguarding dangers inherent in the Government's personalisation agenda, and to develop protective measures that support this process.

  • A contribution toward the development of our training packages and DVDs, which educate members of the public and care staff about elder abuse.
