are a community based older people's organisation which is networked
across Ireland. They campaign on issues of ageing, produce a
regular bulletin and have an extensive library (the largest of its

Alcohol
Concern
A national agency on alcohol misuse, working to reduce the incidence
and costs of alcohol related harm and to increase the range and
quality of services available to people with alcohol related

Arthritis
Care
Arthritis Care is the only UK-based voluntary organisation working with
and for everyone with arthritis. They
provide information, training and support to help people take control of
their health and their lives. At the same time they campaign for raised
awareness about arthritis, and for better services for people affected.
An Bord Altranais
was established by the Nurses Act, 1950 to take over the
functions of two bodies, the Central Midwives Board and the
General Nursing Council, which had been established in 1918 and
1919 respectively. An Bord Altranais was re-constituted and its
functions were re-defined and expanded by the Nurses Act, 1985.
It is the Irish equivalent of the Nursing and Midwifery Council

is a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for older
people. They provide caring services and operate within a
published philosophy.
British
Association for Service to the Elderly
BASE (British Association for Service to the Elderly) provides education, training and consultancy services for those
working with older people and other adults who need care or
support. They also organise conferences and study days and
publish the journal Quality in Ageing four times per year, in
addition to training resource packs.

provides a guide to care and the rights of older people in the UK.
The objective of the site is to empower people with the
information they need to make truly informed, effective choices - to
give them control in their lives, or the lives of their loved ones.

is an amalgamation of the former care services regulator and
the Welsh social services inspectorate. It is responsible for
inspecting all care services in Wales that are covered by the Care
Standards Act 2000.

They regulate health and adult social care services, whether
provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary
organisations. They also protect the rights of people detained under

Carers UK is the voice of carers and the leading campaigning, policy
