Hidden Voices:

the definitive AEA guide on elder abuse.  Using findings from analyses of more than 10,000 calls to the Elder Abuse Response helpline over six-and-a-half years, this report provides valuable evidence of the existence, extent and nature of the abuse of older people.  Rather than dramatising the individual accounts or sensationalising the issue, the report recognises that there are many types, settings and causes of abuse.  It shows that we need simultaneously to prevent abuse, and to protect and promote the rights of older people.  Order form.

Domiciliary Care toolkit:

AEA in conjunction with the United Kingdom Homecare Association have produced an Adult Protection toolkit aimed at Domiciliary Care Agencies.

AEA Report into the nature of Financial Abuse.

Provides data and information on the nature of financial elder abuse, drawn from calls to our helpline during the year 2006.

The Advocacy Toolkit

The Advocacy toolkit is the culmination of three years work on an advocacy training project undertaken by Action on Elder Abuse and funded by the Department of Health.  The toolkit provides practical advice for individual advocates, managers of advocacy schemes and senior managers of organisations that have secured funding for advocacy work or are contemplating seeking such funding. In addition the toolkit aims to promote a better understanding and enhanced working relationships between advocates and professional within the statutory services.

The BGOP/AEA report:

on placing elder abuse within the context of citizenship.  Written in conjunction with Better Government for Older People, this report forcefully argues that Adult Protection must be viewed from the perspective of citizenship, of contribution and obligation, and of ownership by all those engaged in the modernisation of public services.

The Adult Protection Data Monitoring report

launched at our National Conference in 2006.  It was produced following a two year study funded by the Department of Health and contains important data and analysis of the issues affecting adult protection in England.  Significant guidance and recommendations are included, with the three major ones to Government having been agreed by the Minister in principle.

What is Elder Abuse:

A leaflet which defines who can be abused, what types of abuse, where it can happen, who might abuse, and why it happens. Also provides an extensive list of organisations to contact in addition to Action on Elder Abuse.

Research Seminar

In 2002 AEA hosted a half day seminar to consider issues around elder abuse research.  This paper outlines the key conclusions.
